Really interesting discussion. Many intentional communities were initially spawned in the US by B.F. Skinner's novel "Walden Two". When I was in the Brisbane chapter of The Zeitgeist Movement, I led a project called 'Visiting Communities Tour' investigating sustainable communities in Australia. There are so many and yes, most fail. Not surprisingly, most of them are Greenies especially the one I almost joined toward the end of my investigation, in Maleny. The irony of them applying rules such as 'hard to enter, easy to leave' while being open borders nationally is completely lost on them. I'm a patriot with a late 20th century view of social progress minus multiculturalism. I do hope the plans patriots have for forming a base come to fruition. I kept a diary of my investigations and there are some useful links and information in it (link below). Now, I run a sustainable sharehouse, renting a unit with a food garden, but 90% of applicants are foreigners, so if any of your network is interested in accommodation in Brisbane, do get in touch.
