I was a friend of Ljenko Urbancic for 20 years, I found him to be an erudite, impressive and outstanding personality. To understand him one must understand the history of Central Europe 1900-1945. Slovenia is a small nation that was dominated by German Empires ie. the Frankish Empire, the Habsburgs, the Holy Roman Empire and the Austro-Hungarian Empire for about 1300 years. It had shaped their culture and relationship to other European Nations.

Panslavism was a deliberate ideology fostered by Imperial Russia to destablize the Habsburg empire by appealing to the subject people who spoke Slavic nationalism to embrace a Slavic Nationalism which doesn't hold true as Slavic is only a linguistic group not an ethnicity.

Ljenko spoke Slovene, Croatian-Serbian-Bosnian, Italian and some German.

He was anti-Communist therefore considered Anti-Jewish by default, the Left and Jews had a vendetta against him because he was a great organizer of Anti-Communist Ethnic groups within the Liberal Party.

I know a lot about the history in detail about NS Germany and Nations that allied themselves to Axis.

I will say that he was a man of his time, he chose Anti-Communism and Nationalism in a time when NS Germany was the only choice to fight against Tito and Stalin.

Pity that Ljenko did not succeed in steering the Liberal party to be a Nationalist party representing Anglo-European interests.
